Short trail with water to cross

September 29, 2020

Here a short trail, the trail stops at the water side. Toots had to find that he should cross the water.

Trail 340m increasing the distance

September 26, 2020

A trail of 340m, learning to take distance and trying to keep on the track.  He started to fast, not concentrated on the trail, but after a visit to the trees, he started the trail. He has to do a lot of self-study and then he gets better and better in follow the trail.

Mark at 150+ meter

September 26, 2020

Starting to do marks at a longer distance. Here 150+ meter. You can see that he is used to do marks on 70-90 meter.

Of course when Bob (other labrador) is doing the mark, he is not allowed to see this, so a camouflage net behind which he has to wait.

Discussed the new 'out of site' exercise. !,5 minutes out of site, after 1 minute a dummy is thrown in front of him as distraction, After 1,5 minute you go back to the dog, follow without a lease up to the orange pole. Then sit and do the apport.

Apport out of deep water

April 19, 2019

Last Saturday the owner of the male dog who's the father of Toots was in our country. She made some pictures and video's. This is a video where Toots must apport a foam duck out of deep water.

Vooruit (Back) 120m with distraction of a Belgian Shepherd dog.

December 28, 2018

Build up the long line, now a distance of 120m. On his way back, he was distracted by a Belgian Shepherd dog, running on the road, at the end the dog wanted to come to Toots. Toots didn't go to the dog.

Running Long Lines

December 18, 2018

Running long lines (command in Dutch: vooruit or English: back), before this session there were multiple sessions on the same place, in the beginning he saw me putting the bumpers in the field. In this session he didn't see me putting the bumpers in the field, but because of the previous sessions, he knew what to do (memory). At the end, after a few apport, he did the long line to the same spot, but from a different angle.

Jump & Zinger Winger

November 17, 2018

The day after his first jump. Foam duck thrown with the Zinger Winger.

Jump

November 16, 2018

Start learn to jump. I didn't do this before because of the harm you can do to the bones of a young dogs . He try to find a way out, and honestly he did find it some times. A start is made.

Apport

November 10, 2018

Today we did some apports. The first  a white bumper on a field with different hights, the second was a duck thrown with a bird launcher. I must train the apports on different terrains and start with longer distances. We have still a long way to go.

Touch and Ok

November 01, 2018

The second phase of he touch command, now from a few meters  distance. With the Ok word I release Toots from the touch command. In the middle of the video, I start to rotate with Toots when he stays on the touch-pad. With this exercise he learns to rotate by moving  his hindquarters, Useful for the heel work. Next phase will be increase the distance and give the heel command in combination with the touch command (sitting besides me with front legs on the touch-pad) and start to rotate (both directions).

Come and Sit on whistle

October 18, 2018

Train the sit and come command  with the whistle. Sometimes he must come to me and ignore the bumpers, sometimes he must sit first and then cast him back to the bunper.

Two searches in the forrest

October 06, 2018

Two searches in the forrest, a foam-duck and a goose. The first time a dog has to go twice into the forrest to search, they usually finds this strange (he thinks, I already found it boss !!). This was also the first time he had to bring in a goose.

Touch pad

September 28, 2018

The first step of using a touch pad. Next steps will be sending him towards the touch pad from a distance and training heel work.

Bolting Rabbit (Spring Konijn)

September 28, 2018

Training steadyness. Seduction of a rabbit to an elastic band passing in front of his nose.

Combination of several commands

June 17, 2018

In this video you can see all kind of commands. I made the video so I could see what I must improve and what Toots shows me with his body  language (ears, tail, mouth etc..)

Blind over water

May 17, 2018

Here Toots (8,5 months old) goes blind over water, so no support of a person on that side of the water. I practised a lot with bumpers, now I'll start to train more with ducks. You can see he is searching for a bumper, after a verbal 'motivation' he takes the duck. At the other side my daughter helps me. We communicate with a 'walkie talkie' .

Running Lines

May 14, 2018

Running long lines. On tall grass and on short-cut grass. Happy to have those fields nearby.

Stay out of sight

April 17, 2018

Stay out of sight for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. A boring video, but also part of the training. 4 cyclists are passing when he's laying down.

Apport over water

April 15, 2018

Apport over water, with help of my daughter. Later in time this will be a blind apport.

Long Lines

March 31, 2018

Running long lines (65-70m). I did this for two days with Toots, at that time he saw me throwing the bumpers. Now I throw the bumpers on the same place, but Toots was at home. So on memory (and the command back/vooruit) he ran three times the long line. Of course with support of the trees and bushes. Later in time I'll train this on rougher terrain and start increasing the distance. This is a crucial part when you are going to direct your dog over long distances. Of course lots to improve for myself, but the start is there. Toots is also changing bumpers, this also will be a point of training.

Swim to the Island

March 29, 2018

The second time that we are doing water work. On his way back, he swims already a bit better (more in balance).

Swimming

March 25, 2018

The water is still very cold, but two days before this video he jumped in a pool on his own initiative. So this was the start signal for water exercises.

Bird & Go

February 08, 2018

I have a new training tool, the Bird & Go,  bird / dummy launcher. Today I tried out with a foam duck.

His first walking a trail (sleep)

January 10, 2018

Today I started the 'sleep' command, follow a trail. It was the trail of a foam duck. He really follows the trail.

Back (turn left en turn right)

January 04, 2018

The second day of doing this exercise. Yesterday with a bowl and a dogs biscuit , today started with a bumper. Because he's very steady, I throw the bumper over his head while he sits in front of me. If I use my left arm, het turns left (right for Toots), if I use my right arm he turns right (left for Toots).

Find (Zoek)

January 04, 2018

This find a little bit further a way, so you can see better that he is searching for the dummy.

First (easy) Find (Zoek)

January 01, 2018

This is the first time he must search to find the pheasant dummy. The second time he did the ( a little bit harder) search, you could see he certainly used his nose.

Apport with gunshot and sit in front wait for command to give the bumper.

January 01, 2018

I first practiced the fetch (vast) and drop (los) as a seperate exercise, in this video I put this together with the apport.

I'm so proud of this little dog.

After the shot, he had to wait for 3 seconds before he could  apport the bumper.

Fetch (vast) and drop (los)

December 29, 2017

Fetch (vast) and drop (los) as a seperate exercise, on a later time, put this together with the apport.

It was a rainy day, so a little bit to dark to film in house.

Apport with gunshot

December 23, 2017

Apport with gunshot and safety cord. The first apport with a bumper, the second with a pheasant dummy.

Stay out of sight

December 22, 2017

Stay out of sight in the down (af) position.

Back (vooruit) and heel work (voet)

December 14, 2017

Toots  goes back to the bowl (with a small dog biscuit), 5 bowls (45 degrees). At the end a special steadiness exercise during the clean up of the bowls.

Back (vooruit) and heel work (voet)

December 10, 2017

Toots  goes back to the bowl (with a small dog biscuit), 5 bowls (45 degrees). If this goes well the number of bowls will be increased.

Apport with small safety cord

December 08, 2017

Apport, Toots got a small safety cord, just in case he starts to early (before the apport command is given).

Follow with and without leasch

December 08, 2017

Starts following with the leasch and without. Before and after the exercise a steadiness sit is added,

A loud firework went off during the exercise. Toots was shocked but recoverd quickly (pfff).

First time a Pheasant Dummy

December 07, 2017

Make sure Toots is getting used to all kinds of dummies.

This is the first time he got a pheasant dummy, perhaps a little bit big for a puppy (13-14 weeks old), but he manage to bring it back.

Casting Left, Right and Back (Vooruit)

December 02, 2017

Start casting left, right and back (vooruit)  of course also a little heel work (voet) and come on the whistle.

Apport

December 01, 2017

First Apports without leasch.  I didn't expect that he would jump over the ditch (perhaps not so wise to let him jump at this age).

Back (Vooruit)

November 23, 2017

Start of the command Back (Vooruit). Start with a bowl and a small dog biscuit.

He started a little bit to early.

Sit

November 23, 2017

The Sit command, one of the most important commands for a hunting dog. Steadiness is very important.

Apport, Sit

November 11, 2017

After the first puppy lesson we start training the Sit command and the Apport command. Toots got the age of 10-11 weeks.
